A Nova Scotia court dismissed the sexual assault charge against Michael Smith Trailer Park Boys on Thursday, ending the case before a planned three-day trial could begin in Dartmouth, N.S. Smith, known for playing Bubbles on Trailer Park Boys, had pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual assault.

Smith did not appear in the provincial courthouse Thursday morning. His defence lawyer, Stan MacDonald, appeared for him, and the Crown told the judge it would be submitting no evidence in the matter. The defence moved to dismiss the charge, and the judge granted the motion.

Dec. 30, 2017 allegation

The charge was tied to an incident alleged to have taken place on Dec. 30, 2017. That date sat at the center of the proceedings that Trailer Park Boys Incorporated said began in October 2025, and the court’s dismissal closed that legal track without a trial record being built.

Trailer Park Boys Incorporated response

Outside the courtroom, MacDonald said, “Smith is happy to put this behind him.” In a statement, Trailer Park Boys Incorporated said, “The court has dismissed the charge against Michael Smith, concluding the legal proceedings that began in October 2025 regarding an allegation dating to December 2017.” The company also said, “Now that he is cleared of this matter, Mike is resuming his responsibilities with Trailer Park Boys Incorporated.”

The immediate practical result is simple: the charge is gone, the trial never got underway, and Smith is back with the franchise’s business side. The unanswered point is why the Crown chose to submit no evidence, because that decision made dismissal the only real outcome left on Thursday.
