Andre Szmyt did exactly what a kicker is supposed to do, and in a game decided by three points, that mattered a lot more than the usual polite nods kicker performances tend to get. He went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts and added his lone extra-point try in the Browns' 21-18 win over the Carolina Panthers, which means his foot was responsible for a full third of Cleveland's scoring.
That is the kind of output that can swing a tight Sunday like this one. The Browns needed every clean strike they could get, and Szmyt delivered without hesitation. When the margin is this thin, perfect kicking is not a footnote. It is part of the result.
Perfect on the day, but the outlook stays limited
Still, there is a reason this should not be overread. Yes, Szmyt helped the Browns in a narrow win. Yes, he was flawless when called upon. But that does not automatically turn him into a reliable fantasy play. The broader picture still suggests he does not project to be a good fantasy option at the position for the rest of the season.
That is the awkward truth about kickers: one sharp performance can matter deeply to a team and still mean very little for fantasy managers. Szmyt was excellent on Sunday, and the Browns needed that excellence. For fantasy purposes, though, this looks more like a useful one-game note than the start of anything bigger.
