Taylor Swift new curly hairstyle appeared on Oct. 2, when she posted a shoulder-length wavy lob on Instagram. The look arrived as a celebration, not a quiet reset, with Swift tying the post to her musical achievements. It also extends a pattern: she had already cut her long blonde hair down in August.

Oct. 2 Instagram Post

Swift showed short shoulder-length curls and called her hair her “factory settings.” The post centered on Patient Zero and The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, the two projects she said were part of the celebration. For a performer whose visual changes often arrive with a new release cycle, the haircut reads as promotion as much as personal style.

Two of Swift’s projects charted at the same time on the U.K.’s Official Charts. That simultaneous placement gives the Instagram post a business edge: the hair reveal was attached to actual performance, not just image management. In entertainment, that is usually the point where a style change turns into a campaign marker.

August in London

Swift first stepped out with a new haircut in London in August, two months before the Oct. 2 post. That August sighting came after she and Travis Kelce tied the knot on July 3, which helps explain why the shorter cut did not begin with this latest reveal. The new lob is less a hard pivot than a second pass at the same reset, with the curls giving it a different finish.

The complication is simple: the hairstyle is being sold as new, but the haircut itself was already shorter in August. That means the Oct. 2 post is doing double duty — showing a fresh styling choice while also extending an existing change that started before the celebration post.

33 MTV VMA Wins

Swift’s timing also lands after she became the most awarded artist in the history of the 2026 MTV VMAs on Sept. 27, when she reached 33 Moonman statues and passed Beyoncé for the record. She also received the first ever Artist-Director award, a recognition MTV said honors a musician whose behind-the-camera work has expanded music video storytelling. Swift said, “I got to tell you though, the main reason why I love writing and directing music videos so much is because you, the fans, make it so much fun,” and added, “You make it so rewarding because you actually care about what we're making.”

That leaves the new curly lob looking less like a one-off and more like the visual language of a very active period. Whether Swift keeps the shoulder-length curls or moves on to another cut is the open question, but for now the image, the charts, and the award tally are all moving in the same direction.
