Sling TV Ends $5 Sling Day Pass for Short-Term Access

Sling TV has removed the sling day pass, ending the $5 one-day option and the three-day and seven-day versions that let customers buy short-term access to select channels. The change cuts off a low-cost route for sports and news viewers who wanted one-off access instead of a monthly bundle.

Sling Essentials and Sling Select

Sling TV now points customers to Sling Essentials and Sling Select, which start at $20 per month. Sling Essentials includes, while Sling Select includes and NFL Network. For readers who used Sling Pass as a temporary way to watch live programming, the new setup is a different calculation: the entry price is higher, but the access is built around monthly service instead of a clock that runs for 24 hours.

Q3 and 159,000 Subscribers

159,000 was the subscriber gain Echostar executives tied to Sling Pass during Q3 of last year, when they said the feature was directly responsible for the boost over a three-month period. Sling TV generally serves around 2 million customers, so the short-term product had been more than a gimmick; it clearly pulled in a measurable slice of the base. Removing it now suggests the company is choosing a cleaner package lineup over a product that could spike interest but also complicated pricing.

The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros Discovery

The feature was controversial from the start, and The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros Discovery filed lawsuits related to Sling Pass. That history makes the removal more than a simple menu update. Sling TV had been selling access to and, plus other networks, through passes built for single events and short windows, and the legal pressure around that model never really disappeared.

Whether Sling TV plans to replace Sling Pass with another short-term access product is unanswered. For now, the practical move is straightforward: anyone who wanted the one-day deal has to look at the monthly options on Sling TV’s site, where the cheapest stated starting point is $20 per month.
