Angela Paxton asked Republican women to back her estranged husband, Ken Paxton, at a speech earlier this month before the Texas Federation of Republican Women. She urged them to do it despite reservations, even as she is seeking a divorce from the Texas Attorney General on biblical grounds.
Angela Paxton told the audience to picture a secluded outdoor place with cool mountain air, birdsong and a stream, then said, “The water is crystal clear. You can easily make out the face of the person you are holding underwater.” She added, “I won’t ask you whose face you saw if you don’t ask me.”

She said women would decide the election and argued that keeping the seat in the family was preferable to losing it. “We have more control over that seat and the future … when it’s still in the family, even if we’re mad at it,” she said. “But if we lose it to the other team, the nuances that we want to fix with maybe a certain candidate are nothing compared to what it’s going to take to get it back.”
Angela Paxton’s remarks in Round Rock land at a moment when Ken Paxton is running for U.S. Senate and recent polls showed him trailing Democrat James Talarico by an average of 3 points. Women voted at 59.9% in Texas in 2024, compared with 55.9% of men, making that audience a practical target in a race that both sides will treat as close.
Ken Paxton Senate Race
The support also sits beside the reason Angela Paxton gave for ending the marriage. In a 2025 social media post, she said she had earnestly pursued reconciliation, but “in light of recent discoveries,” she did not believe it honored God or was loving to herself, her children or Ken to remain in the marriage.
She later said Ken Paxton was the man who had been filmed while traveling with another woman in Europe this summer, and that his aide detailed an affair with a different woman during his impeachment trial. Angela Paxton said she listened to that testimony while Ken Paxton skipped out, a line that makes her public appeal more unusual than a standard campaign appearance.
James Talarico Race
If James Talarico wins, it would be the first time Texas sent a Democrat to the Senate in more than 30 years. That leaves Angela Paxton’s appearance carrying a clear campaign purpose: helping keep women aligned behind Ken Paxton even while the marriage is breaking apart.
