Mike Evans returned to practice in a limited capacity on Friday and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos, leaving his availability in doubt after a rib injury sustained in Week 3.
San Francisco wrapped up its final practice of the week ahead of the matchup at Levi's® Stadium, but the team said Evans will be a game-time decision. That means the final call on his Week 4 playing status will not come until 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
What the injury means
Evans missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before getting back on the field Friday. The injury came in the 49ers' win over the Arizona Cardinals, and the team has been cautious about his return throughout the week.
Kyle Shanahan said, “Hopefully we've got a shot,” offering a bit of optimism without giving a firm update on whether Evans will be available against Denver.
For San Francisco, Evans’ status matters because it affects the offense’s options as the 2025 season moves into Week 4. If he is able to play, he would give the 49ers another proven target. If not, the team will have to wait and see how the receiving group adjusts without him against the Broncos.
For now, the answer is simple: Mike Evans is questionable, and the final decision will come shortly before kickoff Sunday.
