The Seahawks placed Jadarian Price on injured reserve on Saturday with a chest injury, and Rashid Shaheed now sits inside a roster decision that changes Seattle’s short-term backfield plan. Price had started each of Seattle’s first three games before the move, and he is set to miss at least the next four games.

Price’s 119 yards on 28 carries came while he played 35.8% of offensive snaps, but back-to-back fumbles and the chest problem left Seattle with a narrower option set. Seattle also signed Velus Jones from its practice squad in a corresponding move.

Week 2 injury to Saturday move

Price first sustained the injury in Week 2, then aggravated it in practice this week before Seattle acted on Saturday. That sequence pushed the Seahawks to place him on injured reserve rather than carry the injury through Week 4’s Sunday games.

For Seattle, the immediate adjustment is simple: Emanuel Wilson and George Holani will handle the rushing attack on Sunday against the Chargers. Rashid Shaheed's role jump shows how quickly a backfield can change when one player leaves the rotation.

Zach Charbonnet’s return window

Zach Charbonnet had his 21-day practice window opened earlier this week, and he practiced in limited fashion on Thursday and Friday while working back from a torn ACL. Charbonnet rushed for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns last year, and his return would add another layer to a backfield that now leans on Wilson and Holani.

Price is expected to mix back in among Seattle’s top three running backs once he returns to full health, which makes this a short-term reshuffle rather than a permanent reset. For now, the relevant question is workload: Seattle has to survive at least four games without Price while keeping enough balance in the rushing attack for the Chargers and beyond.
