The project is at an early stage, and Bellamy said more details will come in 2027. For RuneScape players, the announcement pushes a franchise that began in 2001 and now spans RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape Dragonwilds into a new format.

Bellamy introduced the project to fans after the Old School RuneScape keynote. He said, “For 25 years, our players have helped shape RuneScape’s extraordinary world, its characters and its stories.”

He added, “When we talk about the future of RuneScape, we don’t just mean games.” Bellamy also said, “We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience.”

Lyrical Animation and Charlie

Lyrical Animation will produce the series alongside White’s Meatier productions. Daniel Dominguez said, “Runescape has such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful” and, “To be allowed to help bring that to life for its millions of fans alongside our dear friend Charlie again is a dream come true.”

White brings a large built-in audience to the project. His content generates approximately 145 million views each month, and he has more than 25 million followers across his channels and platforms. That gives the animated series a creator partner whose reach extends well beyond gaming audiences.

2027 details ahead

The announcement lands while development is still beginning, which leaves the story, cast and release format undisclosed for now. Bellamy said, “It’s early days, but we’re excited to explore that potential with Charlie and the team at Lyrical Animation, and we wanted our players to be the first to know.”

That makes 2027 the next point at which fans should expect the picture to sharpen. Until then, the practical takeaway is simple: Jagex is no longer treating RuneScape as only a game franchise, and the first screen adaptation is now in motion.
