Jagex has begun work on a Runescape animated series, putting the long-running MMORPG on a screen-adaptation track after years built inside Gielinor. The project was unveiled on October 3, 2026, at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK, and Jagex says more details will follow in 2027.
The announcement pairs Jagex with Lyrical Animation and Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White, whose content generates approximately 145 million views each month and who will produce through Meatier productions. That makes this more than a branding exercise: it joins one of gaming’s oldest active worlds with a creator who already reaches more than 25 million followers across his channels and platforms.
RuneFest in Birmingham
Jon Bellamy revealed the project to fans at RuneFest following the Old School RuneScape keynote, and his framing was blunt about the strategy. “For 25 years, our players have helped shape RuneScape’s extraordinary world, its characters and its stories. When we talk about the future of RuneScape, we don’t just mean games. We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience. It’s early days, but we’re excited to explore that potential with Charlie and the team at Lyrical Animation, and we wanted our players to be the first to know.”
That matters because RuneScape is not being treated as a one-off adaptation. The franchise began in 2001, has expanded into RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape Dragonwilds, and has crossed more than 300 million accounts across the two games. Jagex is trying to turn that scale into screen value without waiting for the sort of fully formed package that usually comes much later in development.
Early days for Gielinor
Daniel Dominguez said the series is still far from a finished reveal. “Runescape has such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful. To be allowed to help bring that to life for its millions of fans alongside our dear friend Charlie again is a dream come true.”
Development is at an early stage, so the announcement arrives before any details about the series itself have been revealed. That leaves the basic adaptation question open in practical terms: how much of Gielinor the show will cover, and whether it leans toward a direct lore translation or a narrower story built for television, are still undecided publicly.
What comes in 2027
White’s involvement gives the project a built-in audience bridge. His channel footprint is large enough to matter on its own, but the cleaner business read is that Jagex is pairing an established game brand with a creator who can move attention quickly while the series is still taking shape. A RuneFest reveal from Jon Bellamy makes the timing clear: the company wants players to hear about the screen move early, not after the concept has hardened without them.
More details are set to be announced in 2027, and that is the point where the project will either look like a broad transmedia push or a tighter experiment inside RuneScape’s lore. For now, the announcement says enough to establish the direction: Jagex is taking Gielinor beyond games, but the story, format and release plan are still waiting for their first real reveal.
