The move gives Sholing a young forward with experience in some of England's best-known academy systems, while also extending the next step in a career shaped by a famous footballing family. Kristian Shevchenko is the son of Andriy Shevchenko, the legendary former AC Milan, Chelsea and Dynamo Kyiv forward who won the Ballon d'Or in 2004.

From elite academies to seventh-tier football

Shevchenko's route has already taken him through Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Watford. He had a stint with Chelsea in 2022, then spent time with Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 before signing his first professional contract with Watford in 2025.

He also represented Ukraine at the 2025 U20 World Cup, giving him international youth experience before this latest move to Sholing. For a club in 16th place with ten points from eight league fixtures, the addition offers another option at the sharp end as the season develops.

Immediate focus for the Boatmen

Sholing were due to play Ebbsfleet in an FA Cup third-round qualifier on Saturday, so the timing of the signing gives the Boatmen another name to work with right away. The club welcomed him by noting his youth development at Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Watford, along with his international background with Ukraine.

For Shevchenko, the move is a chance to keep building senior experience after leaving Watford earlier this summer. For Sholing, it is a low-risk signing with an interesting profile, as they prepare for an important cup test and try to climb from their current league position.
