Week 5 brought major movement in the College Football Power Rankings, and Missouri was the team that benefited most. After a 45-17 win over Florida at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, the Tigers made the biggest leap when the new Top 25 poll was released on Sunday.
The win was decisive enough to change the poll in a meaningful way. Missouri jumped eight spots to No. 10, while Florida fell six spots to No. 24. It was one of three ranked-on-ranked matchups on the weekend, and it helped reshape the middle of the Top 25 even as the top of the poll stayed mostly stable.
What changed in the latest Top 25
The biggest story at the top was how little changed. The Top 8 teams and the previous Top 5 were described as essentially unchanged, which made Missouri's rise stand out even more. In a week with several ranked matchups, the most dramatic movement came from a team that delivered the clearest statement win.
Missouri was not the only SEC team to move. Alabama climbed one spot to No. 9 after its game against Mississippi State at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, while Ole Miss moved up three spots to No. 14. LSU also climbed one spot to No. 17. That gives the SEC several teams in upward motion, even if Missouri's jump was the most notable.
Other poll movement to know
Indiana remained a key part of the conversation after staying at No. 6, and a Big Ten presence continued to show up strongly in the rankings. The week also included USC moving up one spot to No. 18 after its game against Washington at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles.
Kentucky's slide was one of the more surprising changes. The Wildcats dropped out of the poll despite an overtime road win at South Carolina, a reminder that the Top 25 can reflect more than just the final score in one game. South Carolina also fell out of the rankings.
At the bottom of the poll, the movement included a few teams hanging on by a narrow margin, with No. 24 Florida and the rest of the ranked field reflecting a busy weekend of results. McNeese also remained part of the broader conversation around the Week 5 rankings after the latest poll was released.
For now, Missouri owns the clearest headline from Week 5. The 45-17 win over Florida did more than add another result to the schedule. It produced the biggest leap in the latest College Football Power Rankings and helped define a week of change across the SEC and Big Ten.
