Dr Hannah Terry, also known as Hannah Cain, was named locally after her body was found at a home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, on Sunday. Norfolk Police is treating the death as a murder investigation, and officers have not officially identified her.
She was in her 40s and worked at a local GP practice linked to Grimston Medical Centre. A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder after police were called to the property by the ambulance service just after 02:20 BST.
Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court
On Monday, Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court granted officers an additional 32 hours to question the man, who remained in custody. A Home Office post-mortem examination was due to be carried out the same day, while a cordon remained in place outside the house in Fern Hill.
Norfolk Police inquiry
Det Insp Alix Wright of the Norfolk and Suffolk major investigation team said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation, working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the woman's death.” She also said: “I'd ask anyone who believes they may have information that could help our investigation to please share this with us.”
Grimston Medical Centre said on its website that it was temporarily closed because of extremely difficult circumstances affecting the practice team. For people linked to the practice and the wider community, the case now rests on the post-mortem result and the police inquiry into how Dr Hannah Terry died.
