A Kingston fire at Kingston's Ancient Market Place destroyed a range of market stalls in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 October. Eight people were evacuated from the area, and there were no reports of injuries.
Four fire engines and 25 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade dealt with the blaze, which also affected the fascia of a range of properties and a small part of the roof of a neighbouring property. The fire was extinguished by 0608.

Control Officers took the first of six calls at 0433, and crews were mobilised from Kingston, Surbiton, New Malden and surrounding fire stations. Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 04:49hrs on Tuesday, 6 October to reports of a fire in Market Place, Kingston.
The Metropolitan Police Service evacuated eight people, and the Market Place is now cordoned off while a London Fire Brigade and Met Police investigation continues. Businesses within the closed-off area will not trade until further notice.
Market Place cordon
That leaves traders inside the cordon without access to their stalls while officers carry out enquiries to establish the cause of the fire. The question now is what started the blaze at Kingston's Ancient Market Place, because the fire stopped before the damage did.
Kingston Council is monitoring the situation while the cordon remains in place.
