Shakira Mebarak went to a Barcelona court on Tuesday, October 6, to ask for a change in the visitation arrangement for Milan and Sasha. She wants Gerard Piqué to travel to Miami in certain periods rather than put the children on repeated transatlantic trips.
Shakira and Gerard are now fighting over logistics, not contact. The request keeps the father in the children’s lives, but shifts the burden of travel across Miami and Barcelona.
Barcelona and Miami travel
Shakira arrived at the Ciutat de la Justícia in the morning with her lawyer, Carmen Varela. The hearing was handled in the Juzgado de Primera Instancia número 18 de Barcelona, after months of attempts to reach an understanding outside court.
Gerard was represented by Ramón Tamborero, while the judge and the Fiscalía also took part in efforts to avoid a trial. Negotiations went on until almost the last moment, but no agreement was reached, which pushed the dispute back to the tribunal for a ruling.
Milan and Sasha routine
Shakira’s legal team says short transatlantic trips can disrupt the children’s time zones and routine. The argument also points to school obligations, social life, family life, and the effects of flights between continents.
The proposal says Gerard should travel to the United States when vacations are too short to justify a trip for the children. That would let Milan and Sasha stay closer to their usual routine while still seeing their father.
Primera Instancia decision
Shakira is not asking to reduce the time Milan and Sasha spend with Gerard. She is asking to change how and how often the travel happens, and that is the part the Barcelona court now has to weigh.
The practical question is whether the current arrangement will be modified so the father makes some of the trips to Miami. For Milan and Sasha, the ruling will decide who absorbs the burden of crossing Spain and the United States.
