Police are treating the death of Miya Deamer Jones, 11, as unexplained after her body was found in a park near the cricket ground in Elmley Castle. West Mercia Police said inquiries are continuing, and nearby residents have been told to expect an increased police presence while officers work through the case.
She was reported missing at about 23:20 BST on Sunday. Daniel Pilkington said: “We are carrying out inquiries to fully understand the circumstances and provide her family with the answers they deserve.”

Ch Insp Daniel Pilkington said the death was deeply upsetting for the community. He also said: “People may notice an increased police presence in Elmley Castle while these inquiries continue.” Officers will also be available to speak to anyone in the community who has concerns.
The girl's family are being supported by specially trained officers. Pilkington added: “This is an incredibly difficult time for her family, and I would urge everyone to be mindful of the impact that speculation could have on them.”
Beverley Hardman on Elmley Castle
Beverley Hardman, the district councillor for Elmley Castle, said: “You can't believe something like this would ever happen. My reaction was one of complete shock.” She also said, “The people of Elmley Castle do things for the community, it's a very proud area. They get on with people and work together.”
Elmley Castle has a population of about 500 and is about four miles from Pershore. Hardman said: “We don't know the background to this but whatever the cause, it's not going to take the pain away for the family.”
The death is being treated as unexplained, but no cause has been given. Police are asking people not to speculate while inquiries continue, and the unanswered gap remains the same one that opened the case: what happened between the girl being reported missing and her body being found?
