Minecraft snapshot 26.4 winter update adds a new Frostbite Zombie for cold and snowy environments. The mob can also emerge when Zombies or Husks stay in powder snow for around 30 seconds.

That gives players a second route to the same threat: a natural spawn in frozen surface biomes and the Ice Caves, or a conversion from existing Zombies and Husks trapped in snow. The Frostbite Zombie has 24 health points, equal to 12 hearts, and some spawn with 2 armor points and Ice Balls.

Minecraft LIVE and the winter update

The upcoming Minecraft winter update places the Frostbite Zombie in the game’s coldest settings, with natural spawns during the night or during thunderstorms in those biomes. It is built as a hostile undead mob, and its melee punches deal damage while applying the Freezing effect for 3 seconds.

Players entering snowy areas should treat the mob as more than a reskinned Zombie. Frostbite Zombies are harmed by Smite, and Ice Balls give them a ranged option with 1-2 HP, or 0.5-1 Heart, of damage across all difficulty levels.

Regular Zombies and Husks

The conversion from Regular Zombies and Husks adds the sharper detail in the mechanic. A mob that starts as a standard undead enemy can become a Frostbite after about 30 seconds in powder snow, which makes the snow itself part of the threat rather than just the terrain.

That also means the new mob is not limited to one spawn path. Frozen biomes can produce Frostbite Zombies directly, while powder snow can turn existing enemies into the same type without any separate trigger from the player.

Ice Caves and Frostbite

The open question is how far that spawn list extends beyond Ice Caves and the other frozen surface biomes. For now, the practical answer for players is simple: watch the snow, watch the timer, and assume any lingering Zombie or Husks in powder snow can change form before you can clear the area.
