Dermot Mulroney and Joe Miñoso Lead Chicago Fire Cast Changes for Season 15

Chicago Fire cast changes will send Dermot Mulroney and Joe Miñoso out in Season 15, even as both are set to appear in early episodes to finish their storylines. The move reshapes Firehouse 51 just ahead of the Oct. 7 premiere and gives the new season an immediate turnover point, not a clean reset.

Mulroney said, “They wrote an incredible storyline that put me as an actor on high challenge, so I loved every minute of it. Sad to see it go.” He also said, “We gave it our all for two seasons.” That matters because his exit comes after two seasons, and the show is choosing to stage the departure on screen instead of cutting away from it.

Dom Pascal and Joe Cruz

Mulroney will return early in Season 15 to conclude Chief Dom Pascal’s storyline before leaving the series, while Miñoso is also expected to appear in early episodes to wrap Joe Cruz’s arc. Season 14 ended with Cruz and several members of Firehouse 51 trapped inside a burning storage facility, so the first stretch of the new season has to resolve a cliffhanger before the cast shifts fully settle in.

Miñoso’s exit lands with more history behind it: he has played Joe Cruz since the pilot. On a show that has already absorbed major departures, including Jesse Spencer as Matt Casey in 2021 and Eamonn Walker as Wallace Boden in 2021, that kind of run gives the early episodes of Season 15 a built-in handoff function.

Season 15 returns

Taylor Kinney is locked in to return as Kelly Severide, and Miranda Rae Mayo is set to come back as Stella Kidd. Christian Stolte, David Eigenberg, Hanako Greensmith, and Jocelyn Hudon are also set to return, giving the series enough continuity to absorb two exits without turning the ensemble into a revolving door.

Da'Vinchi is joining as a series regular and will play Marcus Burke, a funny but defiant firefighter candidate at Firehouse 51. He shared the casting news on his Instagram, and the role gives Season 15 a direct replacement lane inside the house rather than forcing the show to lean only on survivors from the old lineup.

Firehouse 51 reset

Mulroney’s departure after two seasons and Miñoso’s exit after the pilot-era run make Season 15 a repair job as much as a new chapter. The open question is how quickly the early episodes move from the storage-facility cliffhanger to the exit scenes, because that pacing will decide whether the season starts as a cleanup or as a launch.

For viewers, the practical read is simple: the first episodes on Oct. 7 are doing two jobs at once, closing out Chief Dom Pascal and Joe Cruz while introducing Marcus Burke into Firehouse 51. That combination should keep the ensemble intact, but it also puts the burden on the opening stretch to earn the handoff instead of just announcing it.
