Southwest Airlines launched a Southwest vacation notification push on Oct. 5, 2026, tying its new “Enter Airplane Mode” campaign to an online “Notification Vacation” feature. The customer activation lets people upload a screenshot of homepage notifications to earn Rapid Rewards points.
The airline said Notification Vacation and the Burnout Quiz together offer the chance to receive more than 185 million Rapid Rewards points. Sabrina Callahan, Southwest Airlines Co.’s Senior Vice President and Chief Digital & Marketing Officer, said the campaign is meant to turn a moment of strain into a booking point.
Sabrina Callahan’s campaign pitch
Callahan said, “As the airline that democratized the skies, Southwest Airlines® has always helped make the dream trip a reality and our new campaign, 'Enter Airplane Mode,' encourages Customers to recognize when they're approaching a breaking point and to turn that moment into their booking point.”
She added, “With a Customer extension called 'Notification Vacation' we are taking it one step further from simply encouraging you to take the trip to helping you bring it to fruition.”
Southwest said the campaign begins airing on Oct. 5, 2026, and was created with GSD&M. The spots were shot by Will Speck and Josh Gordon and voiced by Adam Scott.
Notification Vacation mechanics
The mechanics are simple: customers upload a screenshot of homepage notifications, and Southwest converts that action into Rapid Rewards points. The Burnout Quiz gives the campaign a second path, asking customers to gauge their burnout level and look for inspiration for a relaxing getaway.
Southwest tied the rollout to a sponsored survey in which 76% of respondents said they are experiencing burnout, while 68% said a trip is one way to regain control of their time. That gives the promotion a clear audience: people who already feel overloaded and may be looking for a reason to plan time away.
Southwest’s burnout push
The campaign asks customers to disconnect from constant pings while also asking them to upload notification screenshots to participate. That contradiction sits at the center of the promotion: the airline is selling relief from the feed, but the entry point is still the feed itself.
Southwest said it operates at 120 airports across 12 countries, and it framed the campaign as part of a broader effort to make getting away easier. For customers, the immediate takeaway is practical: a screenshot and a quiz now translate into a shot at Rapid Rewards points, with the combined pool set above 185 million points.
