Lexi Potter said she wants to help England in whatever way she can after Sarina Wiegman gave her a first senior call-up on September 29. Potter spoke at St George's Park on Tuesday 6th October and said the step up felt surprising, even after six consecutive games for Chelsea in the Women's Super League.

Potter has been playing for Chelsea this season, starting against Manchester United and completing all 90 minutes, then scoring a goal and adding an assist against Birmingham City. Those performances placed her into England's senior camp for the first time, giving Wiegman another midfield option from the Super League for Chelsea.

Potter said she was “really surprised” when the call came, and described the chance to join camp as special. Her stated aim was simple: stay focused each day, be the best version of herself she can be, and avoid looking too far ahead.

She also said she is not “the loudest of characters” and described Keira Walsh as someone who “really looks after me” and tries to bring her out of her shell. Potter said she has had opportunities alongside Walsh at Chelsea, where learning from her in training has helped her adjust to the higher level.

Potter said she is happy to hold for Walsh and get the ball to her as much as possible, adding that there are not many better players in the six to play. That gives England a clear picture of how she sees her role: keep the game simple, support a senior midfielder, and take minutes in training before anything else.

For now, Potter said her focus is on helping the team in whatever way she can. Whether she makes her senior England debut in the World Cup qualifiers against Greece is not stated, but her first call-up already shows how quickly her form at Chelsea has moved her into England’s selection picture.
