The move gives Hibs another wide attacking option as they look to build under Marink Reedijk, who only replaced David Gray in the dugout last month. It is also Reedijk's first signing as Hibernian manager, making the deal a notable early step in his time at Easter Road.

Matondo, 26, joins after a trial period with the club and a spell that included time at Hibernian's training camp in La Manga during the international break. Reedijk said Matondo made an immediate impression there and praised his attitude, application and willingness to learn and adapt.

He also highlighted the winger's pace, directness and ability to threaten in wide areas, along with the positive personality he can bring to the dressing room. For Hibernian, that makes this a relatively low-risk move with a clear upside if Matondo settles quickly.

What Matondo brings to Hibernian

Matondo arrives with experience from a near four-year stint at Rangers, where he made 70 appearances before moving on. He also spent a five-month spell at Brann before leaving in August, and his career has included time with Schalke, Hannover, Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.

On the international stage, Matondo has 15 Wales appearances to his name, with his most recent coming last year in a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan. That background gives Hibernian a player who has operated at a high level in several different environments and now has a fresh chance to establish himself in the Scottish Premiership.

The agreement gives Hibernian flexibility, too. If Matondo fits quickly and performs as hoped, the club can extend the move for another year. If not, they have only committed through the end of the season. Either way, Reedijk has now made his first move in charge, and it is a signing that adds pace and experience to the squad right away.
