Tyler James Williams says he is “very stressed” about slipping back into Gregory Eddie for Abbott Elementary season 6. The actor is returning as ABC brings the show back on Oct. 7 with a 22-episode run that includes the series’ 100th episode.
Williams added, “As an actor … I’m excited,” then made the pressure plain: “As the person who is slipping back into Gregory’s skin shortly, I’m very stressed.” That is the right kind of nervous energy for a broadcast comedy entering a milestone season; it signals that Gregory’s new workload is not being treated as a reset, but as the engine for the next stretch of episodes.
ABC’s 22-episode stretch
Season 6 airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET, giving Abbott Elementary a fixed weekly slot for viewers tracking Janine Teagues, Gregory Eddie, and the rest of the school staff. The 22 half-hour episodes also mean the season has enough room to let workplace shifts breathe instead of rushing them into a cramped run.
The schedule matters because this is not a short event season built around a single hook. Abbott Elementary is back in Philadelphia public school territory with a full broadcast order, and that usually gives a comedy more space to spread out relationship beats, staff dynamics, and the kind of small office changes that turn into long arcs.
Gregory, Janine, and the math
Season 5 ended with Gregory’s promotion to assistant principal and Janine and Gregory working things out by the end of the year. In July 2026, Quinta Brunson said Gregory’s new responsibilities and possible engagement could create anxiety, and that is where season 6 gets its friction: the couple is stable, but the job description is no longer simple.
Brunson also said in September 2026, “I’m just excited for what we’re cooking” and “I feel that it’ll be even better because we have more direction this season, and that feels really great.” That lines up with the season’s structure, where Gregory’s role and Janine’s relationship status are both part of the same workplace machine rather than separate subplots.
One Hundred at Abbott Elementary
The 100th episode is titled “One Hundred,” a clean milestone that gives season 6 an extra businesslike marker beyond the premiere date. Sheryl Lee Ralph posted, “100 table reads with this Abbott Elementary family, and baby, what a journey it has been! Who knew sitting around a table could lead to something this special?” and later added, “100 down, and honey, we are still teaching!”
That is the season to watch if you care about whether Abbott Elementary can keep its rhythms while adding more responsibility to Gregory and more history to the ensemble. The 100th episode sits inside a 22-episode order, so the show is not treating the milestone as a stunt; it is using it as part of the regular run, which is the smarter move.
