The 2027 USA Track & Field Marathon Championships will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2027, as part of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, giving the national title races a place inside one of the sport’s biggest stages.
USA Track & Field said 20 American men and 20 American women will compete for the championships, with nearly $110,000 in prize money on the line. The announcement ties the national event to the 49th running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, a race that draws runners from 50 states and more than 100 countries across the full 26.2-mile course through 29 Chicago neighborhoods.
A key step in the road to LA 2028
The move is also being framed as part of the build toward the 2028 Olympic cycle. Max Siegel, the CEO of USA Track & Field, said Chicago is one of the world’s great marathon cities and that the federation is excited to bring the USATF Marathon Championships to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
Siegel also said the national championship will be a major part of ensuring Team USA is built for LA 2028, with the nation’s top runners using the race to showcase their fitness and work toward spots in the 2028 Olympic Team Trials – Marathon.
Carey Pinkowski said the Bank of America Chicago Marathon has a long history of bringing together the best distance runners in the world. He added that this is an opportunity to ensure Team USA’s top runners can compete in a world-class field and a world-class race as they prepare for a big year in 2028.
Entry timeline for Chicago Marathon 2027
Applications for guaranteed and non-guaranteed entries to the 2027 Bank of America Chicago Marathon will open to the general public on Thursday, October 8, 2027 at 8 a.m. Central Time. They will close on Thursday, October 29, 2027 at 2 p.m. Central Time.
