Comic Con NYC opens its 2026 run Thursday with a 20th-year slate that adds a Coney Island partnership and a reduced-price ticket after 3 p.m. Thursday. ReedPop is using the anniversary to test access changes while the convention stays at the center of New York City’s pop-culture calendar.
The show will draw 250,000 people over four days, with more than 500 creators and 650 exhibitors inside the Javits Center. Marie Browne, ReedPop senior vice president overseeing all consumer events, said, "I never thought I would be here 20 years later, running this great division and I never thought that we would be at 250,000 people and going strong at this point."
Marie Browne on 20 years
33,000 attendees marked the event’s start in 2006, so the gap between the first show and this year’s crowd is the business story behind the anniversary. Browne said she has been with RX, ReedPop’s parent company, for the past 20 years and helped launch New York Comic Con in 2006.
"Preserving the community at an event of this scale doesn’t happen by accident," she said. "We’ve created dedicated spaces, stages, panels and meetups where people can share passions and find one another since the beginning." ReedPop is trying to hold that line even as the convention fills the Javits Center and now reaches a scale that forces every access decision to matter.
Coney Island and Thursday access
The new Coney Island partnership gives ReedPop a way to spread the show beyond the convention floor without changing the core event at the Javits Convention Center in New York. Expanded cosplay areas and Writers’ Block programming are also part of the plan, while the reduced-price after 3 p.m. Thursday ticket is aimed at making New York Comic Con more accessible to residents of New York.
That cheaper Thursday entry is the most practical change for local attendees. It creates a later-day on-ramp for people who cannot commit to a full convention schedule, while keeping the main four-day structure intact for now.
Panels and five-day talk
Marvel Television and Marvel Animation open the week on Thursday, Matt Dinniman gets a Friday spotlight, Star Trek gets a Saturday deep dive, and NCIS: New York lands on Sunday. Main-stage panels are streamed live on YouTube, so the event still reaches fans far beyond New York City.
ReedPop is considering expanding New York Comic Con to five days next year, and that would be the first real test of whether the show can keep adding capacity without losing the community feel Browne described. For attendees, the smart read is simple: expect more access experiments now, because the organizer is already treating the 20th year as a rehearsal for a larger show.
