Gareth Davies described a Cardiff bed bug infestation as the worst he had seen in 38 years. Cardiff bed bug infestation Gareth Davies was severe enough that his team had to work in full protection and remove mattresses and bed frames for incineration.
Davies said the outbreak was in Canton. He said millions of bedbugs were crawling out of mattresses, with hundreds of thousands appearing when the mattresses were lifted, and that the bugs were also coming out of the wallpaper.

Davies told Radio Wales Breakfast: "This house was just horrific," and said, "Hundreds of thousands of them when you lifted the mattresses up." He also said, "They were coming out of the wallpaper, it was horrendous."
His team first used specialist vacuum cleaners to "take as many {bed bugs] as we can out of the equation," then treated the property with a specialist insecticide. The mattresses and frames were bagged and incinerated after that work.
Cardiff bed bug infestation signs
Bedbugs can enter homes on clothes, luggage, or second hand furniture, and they can hide in mattresses or walls. Davies said, "You'll be bitten and you'll see blood spotting on the sheets," and added, "As soon as you see them you need to act."
The case stands out because the infestation spread beyond bedding into walls and wallpaper, which forced the removal and destruction of the mattresses and frames. For a household facing bedbugs in more than one part of a room, the practical step is to move quickly once signs appear and to treat hidden areas, not just the surface where bites first show up.
