’s College GameDay is changing plans for the Georgia Vs. Alabama Game because of Hurricane Isaias, with the pregame show moving indoors to Coleman Coliseum on the University of Alabama campus.
The University of Alabama announced the venue change on Wednesday, after told WBRC on Tuesday that only severe weather would force the show to alter its plans. Late Friday, Hurricane Isaias remained on track for a potential Alabama landfall, and the storm had strengthened overnight into a Category 2 system.
Bryce Young gets the guest picker spot
Pat McAfee announced on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday morning that Bryce Young will serve as College GameDay’s guest picker for Saturday morning. Young is a Heisman Trophy winner, and his appearance adds a familiar local name to a show that will now be indoors instead of on The Quad.
In recent years, College GameDay has aired from The Quad on UA’s campus, but the weather forced a different setup this time. The show will air from Coleman Coliseum from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
For fans planning to attend, the move indoors also changes the experience. The University of Alabama said there will be no overnight camping, and fans will be admitted beginning at 5:15 a.m. through the north and east doors. A clear bag policy will also be in effect.
That makes the setup more controlled than the usual outdoor scene, but it still gives Alabama fans a chance to be part of one of the sport’s most visible weekly broadcasts. With Isaias still a factor late Friday, the indoor plan gives and the University of Alabama a safer option while keeping the spotlight on the Alabama-Georgia game.
