Greencore has issued a Marks And Spencer salmonella recall after Salmonella was found in pistachio nuts used in five products sold at M&S and Tesco. Customers who bought the items were told not to eat them and to return them for a full refund.
The recalled products are M&S Super Nutty Wholefood with a Soy & Ginger Dressing, M&S Nutrient Dense Nutty Super Wholefood, M&S Fresh Collection Pistachio Pesto, Pinch Pan Poppin’ Chicken Pasanda & Nutty Pilau Rice sold at Tesco, and Pinch Bangin’ Butter Chicken & Nutty Pilau Rice sold at Tesco. The Food Standards Agency urged customers not to eat the products.
M&S and Tesco products
M&S said only the displayed date codes were impacted and that no other M&S products were affected. The supermarket also said customers could return the product to their nearest store for a full refund. The recall covers ready-made meal, salad and sauce products, all linked to pistachio nuts that tested positive for Salmonella.
That leaves the practical check at the package level: customers need to compare the displayed date code on the pack with the recall notice, not rely on the product name alone. A matching date code means the item should stay out of the fridge, cupboard or lunchbox and go back to store instead.
Food Standards Agency advice
The Food Standards Agency said people with symptoms should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours. It described Salmonella as a common bacterial cause of food poisoning, and said symptoms usually include a fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
Symptoms usually start within a few hours or a few days of eating contaminated food, though the NHS says they sometimes do not start for a few weeks. For anyone who bought one of the recalled products, the immediate step is simple: do not eat it, check the displayed date code, and return it for a refund.
