Alabama State’s homecoming football game against Florida A&M has been moved to Friday, Oct. 9, with kickoff set for 11:05 a.m. at ASU Stadium. The change came after ASU Athletics said the Southwestern Athletic Conference clash would be moved up a day because tropical storms were headed toward the River Region.
The adjustment was made out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of public safety, with the university saying the decision was tied to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Isaias. The game will also be aired on SWAC TV, replacing the original HBCU GO broadcast plan.
What changed in the Homecoming schedule
ASU said Thursday night’s Homecoming Concert was scheduled to go on as planned, but the rest of the weekend was affected by the weather-related shift. The 50 Under 50 Induction Ceremony, which had been set for Thursday, was postponed. The university also said there would be no tailgate and no parade on Friday.
Alabama State added that all other Homecoming activities scheduled between Friday and Sunday have been rescheduled, with additional details forthcoming. In other words, the football game is now just one part of a broader schedule update as the school works around the storm threat.
For Alabama State, the move keeps the game on the calendar while reducing the risk of weather-related disruptions. For fans, it means a much earlier kickoff, a different viewing option and a Homecoming weekend that will look different than originally planned.
