IGN Adds Jason Duval Details After Rob Nelson Demo

IGN published the full Rob Nelson interview after its July look at GTA 6, adding new Jason Duval detail from a demo where Nelson was on the controller. The interview centers on Jason, Lucia and the game’s Safehouses, which Nelson said are built to feel more interactive than earlier GTA homes.

Rob Nelson on Jason Duval

Nelson said, "There is a ton of stuff the player can do in GTA 6, as Jason and Lucia on their own or together, in between missions and story-driven content." That framing puts the pair’s free-roam time inside the core structure of the game, not just inside missions.

IGN said it was invited to Rockstar North in July to see GTA 6 being played for the first time. The 30-minute demo included a new-look wanted system and a new way to steal cars, and Nelson was the one holding the controller during that session.

Safehouses in GTA 6

One Safehouse scene showed Jason and Lucia hanging out together. Jason was shown grabbing a drink from the fridge and examining a romance novel he found on a table, small details that point to a home space meant to be used rather than simply visited.

Nelson said, "This represents an exciting challenge for us: putting Jason and Lucia on schedules that feel believable and making the Safehouse a lot more interactive." He also said, "The Safehouses [in GTA 6] are probably closer to the camps in RDR2 than they are to safehouses in any GTA game before, in terms of how interactive they are and how much they feel like your home."

IGN after August

IGN said its thoughts on the demo followed the Netflix extended look in August, then later published the full interview with Nelson. The added detail matters because it shows how Rockstar is building around Jason and Lucia between missions, while keeping the relationship between them optional in the demo and the Netflix video.

What remains most useful for players is the shape of the system itself: Jason and Lucia can spend time apart or together, Safehouses are meant to function as active spaces, and Rockstar is tying those choices to a 13-year development process. The next piece players are still waiting for is how the wanted system and car theft changes work moment to moment.
