UAE's Astronomy Centre projected that Ramadan 2027 will begin on February 8, with Eid Al Fitr expected to start on March 9 or March 10. The forecast gives residents and employees in the UAE an early planning window, but the dates still depend on moon sighting.
The centre said Ramadan 2027 is expected to last 29 or 30 days. If Ramadan runs to 30 days, the holiday period for Eid Al Fitr would begin on March 9 and run until March 12, with three paid holidays for the first three days of Shawwal under UAE Cabinet law.
UAE's Astronomy Centre forecast
The projection matters because the Islamic calendar follows lunar cycles and its dates shift earlier by about 10 to 12 days each Gregorian year. That is why the same month can begin on different days from one year to the next, and why residents use the forecast as an early guide for work and family planning.
The centre's dates point to two possible holiday outcomes. If Ramadan lasts 29 days, Eid Al Fitr 2027 would run from March 9 to March 11. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, the break would start on March 9 and continue until March 12.
Moon sighting and Shawwal
The moon-sighting committee in the UAE observes the moon on the 29th of each month to announce the start and end of the Islamic month. If the Shawwal crescent is not sighted on the evening of Ramadan 29, Ramadan automatically extends to 30 days.
That rule is what separates the forecast from the final date. The projection gives the likely window now, while the crescent sighting decides whether Eid Al Fitr begins on March 9 or March 10 and whether the holiday stretch lasts three days or four.
Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr
For Muslims across the UAE, Ramadan is a month set aside for fasting, prayer, community service and family time. It is also regarded as a time to deepen worship, practise generosity and strengthen ties within the community.
Jamaica Vs El Salvador pressure sits outside this story, but the planning effect is similar: early dates let people organise time off before the final calendar is set. In the UAE, the wait is for the crescent moon, and that sighting will decide whether the projected start on February 8 holds.
