Purdue fans have made their biggest concern clear ahead of Saturday’s Minnesota game: the pass defense. In a survey tied to the matchup, 39% of respondents said that was the area they feared most, making it the top issue heading into an 8:00 PM kickoff.
The concern is easy to understand. Purdue is coming off a road victory over Illinois, but the Minnesota matchup has been framed as a night game with a different kind of pressure. Purdue had moved the line, yet it was still a home dog, which adds another layer to the conversation around how the game could play out.
Looking at the full survey picture, defense dominated the response. Combined, defensive concerns accounted for 76% of answers, while offense made up the remaining 24%. After pass defense at 39%, run defense drew 37%, showing that Purdue fans are worried about both sides of the defensive picture almost equally.
The last category, finishing drives on offense, landed at 24%. That is a meaningful share, but it was still well behind the two defensive issues. In other words, the fan base appears to believe Purdue’s path against Minnesota starts with holding up on defense, especially against the pass.
That lines up with the broader pregame discussion around the Golden Gophers. With a coaching staff already talking about Minnesota, the matchup has become less about a single storyline and more about whether Purdue can handle the specific problems that tend to show up in a night game on Saturday.
For Purdue, the survey offers a simple snapshot of where the worry is concentrated. Fans are not just nervous about one phase of the game. They are signaling that the defense, and especially the pass defense, is the main question before Purdue and Minnesota kick off at 8:00 PM.
