Meta’s next live sports step on Quest will begin with Oklahoma Vs Texas on October 10, when the Texas Longhorns meet the Oklahoma Sooners in the first immersive college football game on the device’s TV app. The matchup gives the new offering a marquee opening and extends Meta’s push into live sports beyond its previous NBA coverage.
The company brought 52 immersive livestreamed NBA games to Quest 3S in 2024, and this latest move shows that the plan is now wider than one league or one format. Meta says the partnership will help bring more live sports to the app, with the long-term target set much higher than a single showcase event.
Why Oklahoma Vs Texas matters
The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners meeting is more than a regular-season headline. It is the opening matchup in Meta’s new immersive college football offering, and that makes it an important test of how live football looks and feels inside VR.
Meta has said the broader rollout will include a full week of live sports and, by 2027, more than 100 sporting events. That coverage is also expected to include the 2027 CFP National Championship, showing how quickly the company wants to move from experiment to a more established sports platform.
What viewers can expect
The immersive format is built around a 180-degree view, bringing a different angle to live action than a standard broadcast feed. Meta also says the TV app will carry the partnership’s coverage as it expands, while VR Glasses are planned to launch next spring at a price of $1,300.
For now, the key date is October 10. Oklahoma Vs Texas will be the first sign of whether Meta can make college football work in the same immersive way it has already tried with NBA games, and it will be watched closely as the company builds toward a much bigger sports offering in 2027.
