Zack Baun’s availability is a timely boost for the Philadelphia Eagles, with ’s Tim McManus reporting that the veteran linebacker is expected to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 barring any setbacks.
Baun was released from the NFL concussion protocol on Friday before the Eagles travelled to London, giving the defence a welcome piece of good news after the loss to the Rams. In that game, the Eagles’ defence started to get gassed in the fourth quarter, which only sharpened the focus on getting key players back on the field.
Why Zack Baun matters to the Eagles
Baun had already shown his value in the first three games of the season. He appeared in those three games and totaled 25 tackles, four tackles for loss and three passes deflected, numbers that underline why his return matters so much to Philadelphia’s defence.
The timing is important too. On Thursday, Baun was limited in practice alongside Jihaad Campbell, while Marcus Epps and Jonathan Greenard did not participate. That made Friday’s update even more significant for the Eagles as they prepared to head to London for Week 5.
What changed on Friday?
The key development was simple: Baun came out of the concussion protocol and moved closer to being available against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That does not guarantee anything until kickoff, but it puts him on track to give the Eagles another reliable presence in the middle of the defence.
For a team looking to rebound after fading late against the Rams, that is the kind of update which can matter immediately. If Baun is able to go, the Eagles will have one fewer concern as they take their Week 5 trip to London.
