A man in his 20s died after being stabbed at The Beggars Bush in Sutton Coldfield just before 02:00 BST on Sunday. West Midlands Police said he was found in the pub car park on Chester Road and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Det Ch Insp Stacey Follows said: "Our investigation is at an early stage, and our thoughts are with the man's family and friends today". She added: "We will continue to support them as our investigation progresses, and I'd urge anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam or CCTV to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
West Midlands Police and CCTV
The force has launched a murder investigation and is reviewing CCTV while officers speak to witnesses. Police said a large number of people are believed to have been at the venue for an event, which means anyone leaving the area around the time of the stabbing could have information that helps piece together the last moments before the death.
The victim was found in the car park behind a busy venue, yet the exact circumstances that led to the stabbing have not been laid out publicly. That leaves the timeline tight but incomplete: police have the scene, a dead man, and a crowd of potential witnesses, but they still need the sequence that connects them.
Sainsbury's on Chester Road
The nearby Sainsbury's supermarket on Chester Road was shut while police remained in the area. Sainsbury's said it could not confirm when the store would reopen and told customers that the Castle Vale and Mere Green supermarkets are alternative options.
The Beggars Bush said staff have been working closely with police and that the pub would remain closed for the rest of the day. Greene King said it was supporting its franchisee and their team, and said its thoughts were with the family and friends of the victim.
For anyone who was at the venue, the immediate need is simple: check dashcam, save any CCTV, and pass it to West Midlands Police. The investigation is still at an early stage, and the next answers are likely to come from the people who were there and the footage they kept.
