The latest College Football Rankings snapshot is less about debate than structure. Sports published the US LBM Coaches Poll for the 2026 season, giving another weekly look at how the Football Bowl Subdivision coaching panel sorts out the teams at the top, the teams on the edge and the teams trying to break in.

In this update, Florida sits at No. 15, Duke is No. 23 and Pittsburgh is No. 24. That alone tells you how narrow the margin can be once the poll moves past the obvious heavyweights: one strong showing, one rough weekend, or even a modest shift in perception can be enough to move a team several spots.

The poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season by the US LBM Board of Coaches, and the voting structure helps explain why the rankings carry both order and tension. Teams receive points based on the ballots, and those totals reveal not just where a team landed, but how much support it had behind that placement. In this release, Florida earned 32 points, Duke 35 and Pittsburgh 25.

Just outside the top group, the vote totals show how crowded the chase can be. Northwestern led the receiving-votes teams with 107 points, followed by Arizona with 92, Nebraska with 74, Oklahoma with 50 and Wisconsin with 39. James Madison collected 33 points, while New Mexico finished with 16. UTSA had 10, Baylor 9, Memphis 6, Oregon State 2 and North Carolina 1.

That is the real value of a rankings update like this: it does not only tell you who is in the top 25. It shows the borderlands around it. A team can be one poll away from a much better position, or one flat week away from falling into the receiving-votes crowd. In college football rankings, that middle ground matters almost as much as the elite tier.

The 2026 US LBM Board of Coaches also frames the poll as a season-long process rather than a one-off announcement. Each week brings another judgment, another recalculation and another reminder that rankings are not simply a list. They are a moving picture of how the sport’s coaches view the field at that moment.
