Smart Reveals Smart 2 With 180-Mile Range and Under-£20,000 Price

Smart revealed the smart 2 at the 2026 Paris motor show, and the new #2 brings back the brand’s original two-seat city-car format. The electric model is aimed at UK buyers who want something far smaller than a mainstream hatchback, with a 180-mile range and a starting price under £20,000.

Smart #2 at 2026 Paris motor show

The #2 is 2746mm long and has a 6.95-metre turning circle. That makes the car unusually easy to place in tight streets and cramped parking spaces, which is the whole point of this shape.

Smart says the car uses a split tailgate and a boot space area behind the two seats. The layout keeps the model close to the original formula while giving it more usable luggage access than a bare-minimum city runabout.

Marco Sina and Tridion Safety Cell Evo

Marco Sina, the #2 project manager, said of the Tridion Safety Cell Evo: “It’s not as obvious from the outside as the original Tridion cell.”

That is the main clue that the new car is not a simple remake. It keeps the visual idea of a protective cell, but the structure has been hidden differently, so the revival is modernized rather than copied.

UK Pure, Premium and Couture Edition

UK versions will come as Pure, Premium and Couture Edition specifications. Pure models include 15-inch wheels, fabric seats, rear parking sensors, keyless entry and start, and Smart’s pilot assist ADAS tech.

Premium models add 16-inch alloys, heated and foldable mirrors, a glass panoramic roof, artificial leather upholstery, heated seats and steering wheel, a Sennheiser audio upgrade and a wireless phone charger.

The powertrain uses an 80bhp electric motor driving the rear wheels and a 35.8kWh LFP battery pack. Smart says the car can travel up to 180 miles, reach 62mph in 11.6 seconds and accept 65kW DC charging, while vehicle-to-load support gives owners a way to power external devices from the car.

Spring pre-orders in the UK

The practical question now is how quickly UK buyers can get one, because pre-orders will open in the spring. For anyone waiting on a very small electric two-seater, the next decision point is whether Smart keeps that under-£20,000 starting price once ordering opens.
