Jeremy Renner Rules Out Hawkeye Not In Avengers: Doomsday

Jeremy Renner said Hawkeye is not in Avengers: Doomsday at a recent Q&A, cutting through months of casting noise with a blunt answer. He also said Marvel did not call him, even as fans keep guessing that the denial is part of a wider tease.

“No, no, no, no. Not in that one,” he said when asked whether he is returning for the film. Renner added, “Doomsday I'm not in, so The Avengers will probably lose, just so you know… they didn't call me so it's their fault they're going to lose.”

Renner, Hawkeye, and the 2026 film

The exchange matters because Renner was absent for Avengers: Infinity War, then played a rather large role in Avengers: Endgame. That history keeps his name in the conversation whenever Marvel starts assembling a new team, and it gives his answer more weight than a routine no-comment.

An audience member shouted “again” after Renner joked that The Avengers would probably lose without him, a reaction that appeared to point back to Avengers: Infinity War. The crowd response fits the larger pattern around this cast: the studio has left room for surprise, and the speculation has not stopped.

Anthony Russo and the cast puzzle

Anthony Russo said at an Avengers: Endgame Encore Q&A that “the cast is so large, and we've announced some of the cast, and we haven't announced some of the cast.” That is the key practical detail for readers tracking Hawkeye and Avengers: Doomsday: some names are public, some are not, and Marvel has not locked the full roster into the open.

Paul Bettany told Good Morning America that if he answered the same question he would “get fired.” Between that and Russo’s comment, the film’s cast rollout still looks controlled, which is why Renner’s denial is drawing attention instead of closing the book.

December 18 and December 16

Avengers: Doomsday hits cinemas on December 18 and opens in the UK on December 16. For now, Renner has made his position plain: Hawkeye is not in the film, even if many Marvel fans keep treating that answer like a decoy.

If Marvel wants to keep one more surprise back, it has the runway to do it. Renner’s answer is the cleanest reading available today, and until the studio says otherwise, Hawkeye Not In Avengers: Doomsday is the line to take seriously.
