Garrett Hedlund says Triple Frontier 2 still has a script pass

Garrett Hedlund says Triple Frontier 2 is still floating around, and the sequel has already had one script attempt. The actor said he has no definitive answers as of today, but the project remains alive seven years after Triple Frontier was released in 2019.

Hedlund said the cast’s busy schedule is one of the big hurdles, even as Netflix has not closed the book on Triple Frontier 2. He added, “They took a stab at the script, and I think when they sit down and take another one, there might be some momentum on it...but I feel like the theme is never say never. So, it would certainly be fun to get the band back together on that one.”

J.C. Chandor and the 2019 film

Triple Frontier was co-written and directed by J.C. Chandor and followed former U.S. Army Delta Force operatives who travel to Colombia to find a drug lord and steal what they believe is $75 million in cash. The cast included Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, Hedlund, Pedro Pascal and Adria Arjona. Ted Sarandos later said the film drew 63 million views in the first few months after release, a sign of why Netflix still has incentive to keep the property in play.

Charlie Hunnam said in late 2023 that he had signed on as a main producer for Triple Frontier 2 and said the sequel was still in the very early stages of development. That earlier update pointed to a project that had not yet moved beyond planning, and Hedlund’s remarks now show the same basic status: discussion, a script pass, and no production timetable.

Netflix keeps the sequel alive

The sequel’s path has stayed tied to availability rather than momentum. Hedlund described the project as still floating around among the respective parties, which leaves the next real step in the hands of another script pass and the schedules of the original ensemble.

For readers tracking whether Triple Frontier 2 is moving out of limbo, Hedlund’s update is the clearest sign yet that the sequel has not been dropped. It is still a conversation, still a draft-stage project, and still waiting on the cast to line up before anything more concrete can happen.
