Apple Newsroom says App Store Indie Games Week starts today with seven indie games on iPhone and iPad. The lineup matters because it gives players worldwide a short list of titles they can download now or pre-order, with a mobile No Man’s Sky release set for October 28.
Carson Oliver on Apple
Carson Oliver, Apple’s head of App Store Worldwide, said indie games are constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity to deliver unique gameplay experiences to Apple users, and that the App Store gives bold ideas a global stage. He also said the week is meant to celebrate the games and the teams that take creative risks to push gaming forward.
Sifu and Vampire Crawlers
Sifu arrives fully adapted for iPhone and iPad with custom-tuned touch controls, a reworked camera system, and full controller support. That means the same game is being shaped for a phone-and-tablet interface instead of being treated as a simple port.
Vampire Crawlers is a gothic card battler, and it is a spin-off of Vampire Survivors. Little Kitty, Big City, 9 Kings, Dome Keeper, and Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall are also featured during Indie Games Week and are available now to download on the App Store.
No Man’s Sky October 28
No Man’s Sky makes its mobile debut on iPhone and iPad on October 28. The game includes every major content expansion to date, including the Cosmos update, and the Cosmos update lets players command their own space stations.
That release is the story’s oddest wrinkle. The game is also described as having had a decade of continuous evolution, yet Apple is framing its arrival on iPhone and iPad as a debut, which suggests the new part here is the mobile platform rather than the game’s existence.
The practical question for players is simple: the App Store is not presenting the seven titles in one identical state. Some are available now, and No Man’s Sky is scheduled for October 28, so anyone deciding what to install today still has to check whether a given game is ready to download or only open for pre-order.
