Peter Bosz has made PSV Eindhoven's approach clear ahead of RB Leipzig vs PSV in the second match of the UEFA Champions League league phase on Tuesday: stick to the team's own style and take the game on.
That is a straightforward message, but it also tells you plenty about the kind of night PSV expect at the Red Bull Arena. Bosz has warned that many of his players are used to this level of occasion, while Mauro Júnior has also underlined just how difficult the test will be against a side that can hurt opponents quickly in transition.
Bosz: no major changes, just one squad update
The main team news from Bosz was simple. He said none of the injured players had returned, but PSV were able to make one change to the roster because Mikkel Bro Hansen was now available. In other words, this was not a night for radical surgery or fresh options all over the pitch.
For Bosz, the bigger point was familiarity. He noted that most players are used to matches in large stadiums and big crowds, whether in the Champions League, their domestic league, or international football. That matters in a venue like this, where the setting is intense but not supposed to overwhelm a senior squad.
Mauro Júnior: stop the transitions
Mauro Júnior's assessment was just as direct. He called it a very tough match, said RB Leipzig have a very good team, and highlighted their ability to transition quickly on the attack. For PSV, the obvious priority is preventing that from happening too often.
He also struck an optimistic note, saying he believes PSV can get a good result even with the strengths RB Leipzig possess. That balance of respect and confidence fits the occasion well: PSV know the danger, but they are not going to Germany to play cautiously for 90 minutes.
PSV's own style remains the plan
The most telling line from Bosz was probably the simplest one. "It’ll be fire with fire," he said, adding that PSV have their own style of play and will stick to it.
That is the key theme of the night. PSV are not changing their identity because the opponent is dangerous, and Bosz is not asking his team to become something they are not. The challenge is whether that approach can hold up when RB Leipzig get space to break forward.
Mauro Júnior also reflected on his own role, saying it is never easy to switch from left-back to midfield, even if he has played both positions in recent years. He prefers left-back, but stressed that if the coach and the team need him in midfield, he has to step up.
That sense of adaptability may matter as much as any tactical detail. PSV's goal remains clear: to advance in the UEFA Champions League. Tuesday's match is an important chance to collect points, and the result will go a long way to showing whether Bosz's confidence in his team's method is justified.
