Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond opened the series with 12 bakers, while Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson set 30 brand new challenges across 10 episodes. Week 3 pushed the remaining 11 bakers through Audience Choice Week, with viewers in charge for the first time ever and the judges asking for Signature, Technical and Showstopper results that could survive a crowded tent.
The format left little room for safe work. The Signature challenge brought familiar faces into the tent, the Technical replaced the gingham cloth with a mystery box, and the Showstopper required wearable bakes. That combination made the episode less about a single neat win than about who could stay composed across three different tests.
Clara takes Star Baker
Clara was named Star Baker in Tuesday night's episode after handling the week’s demands better than the rest of the field. In a competition this compressed, that result matters because it signals who is building momentum before the tent narrows further.
Shannon went the other way. She became the second baker to leave the 17th series in Week 3, and her exit came after she said the experience had changed her more than she expected. “It’s so hard to put into words what this has meant to me. I have become myself if anything, and I have let go of any persona of who I wish I was. I have just really been me and it has been life changing. That is the word life changing, and I don’t want to say goodbye to anyone!.”

Shannon said her standout moment was “definitely during Biscuit Week,” and she named the cheesecake challenge with her mum in Audience Choice Week as her favourite. She also pointed to her portrait cake as her least favourite challenge “simply because I never got the chance to finish it,” which leaves her exit looking less like a collapse than a run that never quite reached full range.
For the remaining 11 bakers, the field is now smaller and the margin for error thinner. Clara has the clearest gain from the episode, and Shannon’s departure shows the series is already separating early contenders from bakers who need cleaner execution if they want to stay in the frame.
