A 5-year-old girl died in South Richmond Hill after police responded to a 911 call about an assault at a home on 110th Street just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. Police said her mother called from the house, and officers found the child unresponsive in a bedroom with bleeding from her nose and mouth.
110th Street response
The girl was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where she died. The mother, who is in her early 30s, is at the hospital being evaluated. Police are talking to other family members as they piece together what happened inside the home.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. That step matters because police are investigating an assault, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. The case remains open, and there have been no arrests.
Richmond Hill investigation
For now, the facts point to a narrow set of next steps: the medical examiner’s findings, the family interviews, and the continued police investigation. What caused the girl’s injuries — and whether the reported assault will lead to charges — is the question still hanging over Richmond Hill.
