Jagex canceled RuneScape Reignited on October 15, less than two weeks after unveiling it during RuneFest 2026 on October 3. Mod Ryan said the RuneScape Reignited cancellation Jagex decision came after player feedback, ending the reset mode before it moved forward.
Ryan said the team had heard “a ton of different perspectives” and concluded, “It is clear that we missed the mark on this, and so we are not moving forward with it.” He also said the goal remains to help RuneScape grow again without putting the existing community at risk.
Mod Ryan on October 15
In the October 15 announcement, Ryan tied the reversal to the way players reacted to the design. Reignited had been built as a fresh start for old and seasoned players, but a vocal portion of the playerbase argued it could split the community, and players compared it to WoW Forever.
Ryan said, “We received a ton of different perspectives from all of you, and we truly appreciate everyone sharing their views. It is super important to us because the last time we didn't listen to player feedback, combat changed forever. And it has taken us over a decade to recover from that. Now I said on stage that we would not repeat the same mistakes of the past, and I truly stand by that. Considering this, we have made the decision to cancel Reignited,”
RuneScape plans after Reignited
Jagex is not pausing RuneScape around the cancellation. Starting December 2, the game will run a 10-day free trial that lets new characters and any character not in membership since June 2 access RuneScape Members worlds and content until December 12.
The company also said Plugins are still scheduled to launch on Monday, October 19. It added that the Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey are still on the way, while its 2027 roadmap remains in motion.
RuneScape growth and community
Ryan framed the decision as part of a broader balance: grow RuneScape with returning and new players, but not at the expense of the people already playing. He said the game will keep moving ahead with decade-old storylines closing, a return to a proper grandmaster quest, and work on Agility.
That leaves the clearest open question inside the fan response itself: how much support Reignited had versus how much of the backlash represented the wider RuneScape community. Jagex acted quickly anyway, and the speed of the cancellation shows it treated the reaction as enough to stop the mode before release.
