Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to help finish the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part II while Matt Reeves attends to an ongoing family matter. Production had already paused, so the change keeps the film moving instead of leaving the remaining shoot in limbo.
DC Studios said Soderbergh approached Reeves and will work with the cast and crew on the film’s final stretch. Reeves is expected to handle post-production when he is ready to return, which keeps the handoff narrow: finish the shoot now, sort the edit later.
DC Studios and the final weeks
“As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2. Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”
Soderbergh said, “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent. The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”
London before the pause
Filming had been underway in London before the pause, and the production already had Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell back in place as Batman, Alfred and Penguin. The returning core gives the shoot a stable center even as the director’s day-to-day duties shift for the final stretch.
The cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch. That roster means the production is not rebuilding around the pause; it is preserving what has already been shot and keeping the remaining work aligned with Reeves’ setup.
February 18, 2028
The Batman Part II is set to bow on February 18, 2028, but it is still too early to say whether the stoppage will affect that date. For now, the practical takeaway is simple: the shoot continues under Soderbergh’s help, Reeves stays tied to the film’s vision, and the release calendar stays open to adjustment if the pause proves longer than the final weeks can absorb.
