Rio Dyer will make his 100th appearance for Dragons RFC on Friday night when the Welsh side open their EPCR Challenge Cup campaign against USA Perpignan at Rodney Parade.
The match takes place on Friday, October 16 at 8pm and marks Dragons RFC’s first game in the competition this season. It also comes after the team were narrowly defeated by Ospreys, with Filo Tiatia making seven changes to the side.
Dale MacLeod said Dragons RFC are expecting a physical contest against the French visitors. He described USA Perpignan as big, physical and skilful, warning that they can quickly punish any lapse in concentration if they are allowed into the 22.
New competition, fresh momentum
MacLeod said the opening game of the EPCR Challenge Cup gives the squad a chance to build momentum and excitement, both inside the programme and among supporters. He also said Dragons RFC are eager to return to Rodney Parade and produce a performance that the fans, the team and the wider organisation can be proud of.
For Dragons RFC, the occasion combines two storylines: a milestone appearance for Rio Dyer and an important early test in the Challenge Cup opener. After the disappointment against Ospreys, the response on home soil will be closely watched.
