Jon Gosselin says multiple independent psychiatrists evaluated Collin Gosselin, and he is warning against calling his son mentally ill. The father says repeated claims of that kind damage Collin’s reputation, credibility and future.
On Thursday, October 15, he told Us Weekly he “could not be more proud” of Collin’s memoir and its mission to help other victims of abuse. He added, “As you know, Collin has been evaluated by multiple independent psychiatrists, and that narrative is proven categorically untrue.”
Collin Gosselin memoir
Collin’s memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, keeps the family’s abuse allegations in public view. He has said Kate Gosselin sent him to a psychiatric hospital without telling Jon Gosselin, that she was physically and emotionally abusive toward him from a young age, and that Jon removed him from the hospital in 2018 after discovering his location.
Collin also described a hospital visit when he was 12, saying Kate stayed about 20 minutes and told him, “Collin, you destroyed our family.” He said, “I was devastated.” Those details matter because they show why the memoir is more than a family grievance; it is the record Jon is trying to protect.
Kate Gosselin TikTok comment
The immediate trigger was Kate Gosselin’s TikTok comment earlier this week, when she wrote, “I know rational logical [people] or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what’s going on here. I had nothing to do with it.” Jon’s representative, Adriane Schwartz, said Jon “has remained quiet to give Collin the space to share his story in his own voice” and that he “fully supports his son and is incredibly proud of him.”
That clash leaves the public reputation question squarely on Collin. Jon said, “Consider this fair warning: The days of using mental health to discredit and silence my son are over,” and the next move will be whether Kate Gosselin answers again or lets Collin’s memoir stand on its own.
