Prince Harry said Prince Archie school math anecdote came up during Thursday's outing in Nottingham, when he told children that Archie asked for a school without math. Harry added that the 7-year-old's first class on his first day at his new school was math.
Harry gave the account while speaking outside the Community Recording Studio in Nottingham. He said, “My son turned around to me and said, ‘Can I go to a school that doesn’t do math?’ I said, ‘That doesn't exist!’” He also told the children, “Most people don’t like math,” before adding, “And then he went to his new school, and on his first day, his first class, guess what it was? Math!”
Prince Harry and Meghan in Nottingham
The outing was Prince Harry and Meghan's first joint public appearance since their return to Britain. Meghan said to one well-wisher outside the first venue, “It’s great to be back,” while the couple visited the Himmah Hub in Nottingham and later the Community Recording Studio in Nottingham.
Meghan also reunited with women she collaborated with on Together: Our Community Cookbook in 2018. Their final stop was Epic Partners, a youth organization focused on mentoring and education, which kept the day centered on community work rather than the school anecdote alone.
UK in August and the
The school detail followed the family’s move back to the UK in August. The children initially enrolled at one school but switched just days after the fall term started in September, after security concerns about the commute.
That change left Archie with a first day that did not match his request. He wanted a school without math, but the first class he walked into was math, and Harry's account put that contrast at the center of the story.
The names of both schools were withheld for privacy and security reasons, and a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess later condemned two photographers seen walking the perimeter of the children's school and looking into the grounds. The remaining open issue is the same one the family has kept private: which school Archie attended first and how the switch unfolded after the fall term began.
