The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Cris Carroll and Taye Fields to Exhibit 10 contracts before their preseason finale against the Boston Celtics, creating a clear route for both players to spend time with the Delaware Blue Coats after the immediate NBA schedule settles.
The move came after the 76ers waived Duke Miles and Saint Thomas, according to reporter Matt Murphy. For Carroll and Fields, the timing matters because Exhibit 10 deals are designed to keep developmental options open, and that makes the Blue Coats the most obvious next stop if they do not remain with the NBA roster.
What Carroll and Fields bring
Carroll arrives with a solid college résumé from Youngstown State. Over his two college seasons, he started 59 of 66 games and averaged 13.2 points per game, along with 5.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals while playing 25.1 minutes per game. He also shot 46.9% from the field, which suggests a player who was efficient and consistently involved.
Fields brings a different profile from North Alabama. In the 2024-2025 season, he started all 35 games he played and posted 11.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks per game in 29.2 minutes. He shot 53.5% overall and 35.7% from long range, numbers that point to a versatile forward who can contribute in several areas.
A familiar route for development
Fields also already has a connection to the 76ers, having spent his Summer League stint with the team during the 2024-2025 season. That makes this latest move less about a new introduction and more about extending a relationship that had already begun.
For the 76ers, the appeal is straightforward. They have added two players with recent college production, kept their roster flexible before facing the Boston Celtics, and left the door open for both Carroll and Fields to continue their development with the Delaware Blue Coats. In a system built around opportunity, that is exactly the kind of pathway Exhibit 10 contracts are meant to create.
