The White Lotus season 4 HBO is in its final stretch of filming in France, and Mike White is taking the series into its first French setting. The production started in April and now has two hotel sites carrying the new season’s takeover.
France is the biggest location shift for the Emmy-winning series since it premiered in 2021 and ran through three seasons. White, who writes and directs the show, has built each season around a new cast and a new place, but this run moves the format into French Riviera territory for the first time.
White Lotus Cannes and White Lotus du Cap
Airelles Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez is being used as White Lotus du Cap, while the Hôtel Martinez is operating as White Lotus Cannes. Those two hotels give the season a split base, with one site in Saint-Tropez and the other in Cannes, rather than a single all-purpose set.
That setup makes the production more specific than a simple location shoot. The show is taking over working hotel spaces, not building a generic backdrop, so the set design has to survive real traffic, real access points, and the limits of keeping guests and crew out of each other’s way.
At the Hôtel Martinez, signs read, “This is a fragile movie set, please do not touch or move any set elements,” which tells the story better than a press note would. The production is being dressed like a controlled environment even while it sits inside an active hotel, and that mix is part of why the takeover reads more like a business operation than a standard TV shoot.
Mike White and the cast pattern
Mike White has kept the series rotating through new groups of recognizable names since the 2021 premiere, from Sydney Sweeney, Murray Bartlett, Lukas Gage and Jennifer Coolidge in season 1 to Aubrey Plaza and Theo James in season 2, then Aimee Lou Wood, Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, Walton Goggins and Michelle Monaghan in season 3. That casting pattern is now paired with a first-time French setting, which keeps the brand change visible without altering the basic anthology model.
Deadline revealed new images of the season 4 takeover, giving the clearest look yet at how the two hotels have been folded into the production. For viewers, the practical takeaway is simple: the season is close enough to wrap that the locations are already doing the promotional work, while the story itself still has not been laid out.
