Conor Chaplin looks to be back in the frame for Leicester City’s Saturday League One visit of Doncaster Rovers after training well at Seagrave and featuring heavily in the latest footage from the club’s session.

That is a timely boost for a Leicester side who are already being described as being in an early-season relegation battle. After eight games, they were 17th and only one point above the relegation zone, so even small signs of attacking progress matter.

Chaplin gives Leicester a useful option

Last weekend, Chaplin and Will Smallbone missed the previous match, but Russell Martin said last week that Chaplin had trained well. The latest clip from training seemed to back that up, with the 29-year-old heavily involved and looking increasingly ready to rejoin the discussion for Saturday’s League One trip.

That matters because Leicester need more options in the final third. Before the Doncaster Rovers match, they had already lost at home to Peterborough United, and the mood around the team was shaped by the need for a response rather than another flat afternoon.

What the training footage suggests

The footage was also used to hint at possible attacking combinations, including Conor Chaplin and Liam Cullen. It was not a team sheet, of course, but it did offer a clearer picture of where Leicester may be heading if Chaplin is ready to play a part.

Emil Riis, who had four goals, was also being watched for signs of sharpness. If he is close to full rhythm as well, Leicester could suddenly have a little more threat and variety in attack for a game that already feels important for the early shape of their season.

Before Saturday, the main question is not whether Leicester have talent. It is whether enough of it is available, fit and sharp enough to turn training ground signs into points on the board.
