York City have taken the lead against Newport County, and it came from the sort of finish that can shift a match in an instant. Ollie Pearce struck from outside the box to make it 1-0, giving York City the first decisive moment in this live League Two update.
The goal arrived after the lineups were announced and with the players already warming up, so there was no long buildup to the key event in the update. What matters is the outcome: York City moved in front through Pearce, whose right-footed shot from distance was enough to separate the sides at 1-0.
For Newport County, that leaves the immediate task unchanged but more difficult. A one-goal deficit is never fatal this early in a match, but it does hand York City the advantage and forces the response. For now, though, the story is simple: Ollie Pearce has put York City ahead, and Newport County must chase the game.
